The SDE++ subsidy (Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie en Klimaattransitie) is a subsidy scheme of the Dutch government for companies and non-profit organisations investing in large-scale renewable energy or carbon reduction. The scheme reimburses the difference between the cost price of renewable energy and the market value of the electricity supplied.
For many business solar projects, SDE++ is an important financial support. It lowers the payback period and makes larger installations feasible.
The SDE++ is an operating subsidy. That means you receive a subsidy on the actual production of sustainable energy, spread over up to 15 years. The scheme encourages technologies that contribute to energy transition, such as solar panels, business battery, heat pumps, manure fermentation and carbon storage.
You only receive a subsidy for the electricity you feed back to the grid. For own consumption, a higher correction amount applies, reducing the subsidy amount.
The correction amount is the amount the government expects you to receive per kWh on the market. The higher this amount, the lower the subsidy you will receive per kWh.
The amount of the grant depends on:
Check the RVO website for more information on the SDE++ subsidy.
The opening round for SDE++ 2026 is expected to start on 22 September 2026. The exact end date and conditions are set by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and published through the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). The SDE++ is specifically intended for larger renewable energy projects and provides subsidy based on the amount of renewable energy generated (kWh) or carbon emissions avoided. The subsidy runs up to a maximum of 15 years.
Important: applications can only be submitted within the official opening period. The scheme works with multiple phases, with the maximum allowable grant amount increasing at each stage. Applying early increases the chances of being awarded.
Because of these changes, it is important to prepare your application well and test it in advance for grant eligibility.
Applying for SDE++ subsidy requires careful preparation. The application is assessed for technical feasibility, grid capacity and expected yield.
A grant application consists of the following steps:
