In April 2024, Shift to Solar realised a smart and shared solar carport in Houten. The steel structure was built between two existing garages and provides roofing for two parking spaces. An efficient solution where neighbours invest in sustainable energy together.
The carport is equipped with 18 solar panels, distributed over both houses. This arrangement is expected to generate 6,642 kWh of solar electricity annually. This will save about 2.66 tonnes of COโ per year - comparable to 106 trees or 13,854 kilometres of driving a petrol car.
This custom-made carport shows how even smaller sites can contribute to the energy transition. By making use of the space between two garages, a sustainable solution was created without additional land occupation.
โ Smart shared use of solar energy
โ Ideal for narrow or intermediate spaces
โ High yield on limited area
โ Saving on energy costs and COโ emissions
